For sixteen days I'm reading through Mark, a chapter each day... the rich Gospel of Jesus. His ministry walked out through Mark's words. It's Jesus on steroids, His final days, leaving us with a clear picture of Who He is and why He walked with us.
The Gospel is God's power to save us. Mark's gospel account of Jesus is an immediate story. It fits my personality. I want the end result, the point, the climax. I don't want the Masters degree version, I want the cliff notes. Mark feels like cliff notes, yet every word... gold. No waste.
Mark paints a picture of Jesus humanity as well as His Lordship. He is God in the flesh, walking with us. We see His power as well as His love for all people. Mark's theme is, "Who Then Is This?" The question the apostles asked after Jesus calmed the waters. Mark calls us to recognize, repent and worship the one True God, through His Son Jesus.
His Power Is Immeasurable.
As I read these words I think of the Psalms. Promises of God's Peace. The words too numerous to share here, grab your Bible and start inhaling His promises of protection, healing, deliverance, redemption, confidence, celebration, justice, dignity, mercy, dependence, vindication, strength, stronghold, suffering to praise, forgiveness, joy in the morning.
This is the God I trust, worship, plead my case, offer my prayers to. He is my judge, not man. Worthy is He who tells me as He told the waves...
"Lord, You are my portion and my cup of blessing; You hold my future. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed I have a beautiful inheritance. I will praise the Lord Who counsels me - even at night my conscience instructs me. I keep the Lord in mind always. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices; my body also rests securely." Psalm 16:5-9
I rest securely because He promises me His protection. Can you imagine what that really looks like?! Yeah for all who embrace the gospel... it is mighty to save!
